Acoustoelastic Stress Measurements
Abstract We refer to the stress-induced change of elastic wave velocities as acoustoelasticity. It originates from nonlinear elasticity, or lattice anharmonicity of crystals, where the interatomic potential is no longer a parabolic function of interatomic distance. Within linear elasticity, the principle of superposition holds. The elastic wave propagation is independent of the stress field and the velocities would never change with stress application.
