BIM-GIS in Catalyzing 3D Environmental Simulation
In this Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, the digitalization of the world is moving rapidly. With the aid of the internet platform, it catalyzes the global digitalization process. On top of that, the environmental prospect has also taken part in this digitalization process. The manipulation of environmental information is crucial and was widely discussed among academic and industrial stakeholders to sustain the environment as well as achieve multiple Sustainability Development Goals set by United Nations. The simulation concept used to represent the flow of action and boost the result with a minimum workforce was considered. With the advantages of technologies, especially Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geographical Information System (GIS) technology, the simulation process can be upgraded to a different level. Integrating BIM and GIS can connect the indoor and outdoor environment and provide many beneficial results compared to when both technologies work separately. Consequently, this chapter highlighted the benefit of integrating these two technologies and the significance of the geoinformatics field by focusing on the three-dimensional (3D) data level aspect of BIM and GIS. As well as looking at how the 3D environmental simulation was constructed, this chapter will also explore and elaborate on the principle and role of BIM-GIS in catalyzing the 3D environmental simulation.
