Travelling people in England: Regional comparisons
Sibley D. (1985) Travelling people in England: regional comparisons, Reg. Studies 19, 139–147. This study is an account of spatial variation in the numbers of Traveller families in England. Counts of caravans compiled by the Department of the Environment for district authorities are analysed, using exploratory data methods. Mean numbers, variability and periodicity are examined for the national data and for three standard regions. The results provide some information on rural-urban differences, migration patterns and the impact of sites on movement patterns. The use made of such information is considered to be an important ethical question.
