Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Pile-Supported Wharves Using Fragility Surfaces
The directional uncertainty of earthquakes significantly affects the results of seismic risk assessment and induces more critical responses by structures. This study assessed the seismic performance of a typical marine structure with high seismic vulnerability under the directional uncertainty of earthquakes. A concrete pile-supported wharf has been modeled in SAP2000 to implement damage analysis, and a number of incident angles were randomly selected for incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). IDA-based fragility analysis was carried out to develop the fragility surfaces. Comparison of the fragility surfaces revealed that the critical zones for the predefined damage states were not identical or unique.
