On the multiobjective framework of environmentally sound and sustainable water resources management
In order to develop and manage water resources on an environmentally sound and sustainable basis, economic, environmental and social objectives must be considered together. This paper reviews the possibilities offered in this respect by a range of multiobjective methods and techniques. Environmental concerns present particular difficulties in terms of both control and analysis, it is found. The available approaches towards multiobjective analysis are considered, particularly in the context of national and international water resources management. It is concluded that more research and investigations are needed to develop a fully operational and sufficiently flexible methodology.
