Public Housing Redevelopment As Social Policy
The social objectives of public housing redevelopment projects have been articulated in terms of improving social justice through the economic benefits and housing options provided. Their redevelopment has not been viewed as neighbourhood renewal, community development or community regeneration in which the focus is on making improvements for the benefit of the existing community. One of the main social aims has been to change resident populations, by relocation and dispersal of tenants and changing the tenure mix. While redevelopment may have considerable economic benefits, the social benefits both for disrupted communities and individuals are mixed.
