Analyzing Seismic Response of Concrete Columns Reinforced by Plain Bars using Behavioral Mechanics
In this paper, an analytical–empirical model, inspired from the damage mechanism observed in tests, is developed to simulate the lateral response of columns reinforced with plain bars and validated with experimental tests accessible in the literature. Using the displacement decomposition approach, and a novel categorization of lateral behavior, the slip part of displacements, as the main source, is calculated through an exact integration solution of the bond-slip degradation for the tensile bar in the column and footing simultaneously. The proposed approach is compared with available test results and using a comprehensive parametric study, a relationship is suggested to predict the rotational capacity of the mentioned columns.
