Efficiency Indices for Traffic Systems in Building
The traffic systems within a building are an important component in assessing the efficiency of the production systems accommodated within it. Inefficiency of the traffic system is liable to obstruct the productive activity within the building.
In this article, we introduce a number of indices for assessing the efficiency of the traffic system in single-storey structures of different geometrical shapes.
The purpose of the article is to highlight the interdependence between the geometrical shape of the building and the location of staircases, elevators and entrances on the one hand, and the nature and efficiency of the in-building traffic system on the other hand.
The article includes a numerical example showing how the dimensions of a building can be determined in such a manner that traffic efficiency as described by different indices will be optimal.
