Presenting inspirational triggers to designers is conducive to stimulating creativity. This study assessed the influence of different types of cultural inspiration triggers on design creativity. Each trigger was categorized into visual or textual information. In addition, the visual information was divided into complete and partial images, according to the degree of pictorial richness. The textual information was divided into descriptive and story-based texts, based on the analogical distance of the semantic layer. Design experiments were used to explore the impact of this information on the creativity of novice designers. The results showed that visual stimuluses were more effective than textual stimuluses in stimulating creativity in novice designers. In addition, partial images with low pictorial richness and story-based text with intermediate analogical distance had a significant positive effect on stimulating design creativity.
