Developing and testing an intra-regional model

As part of the evaluation of the economic impact of alternative transport systems proposed for the Northeast Corridor region of the United States it was necessary to develop a model to forecast these impacts.
The model described here was developed by integrating portions of the concepts of economic-base, intersectoral input-output, and spatial accessibility. Forecasts are developed, by the model, of employment (by ten sectors), population, personal income (by six classes), land value, and land use, for 131 county-size areas.
The theoretical development, parameter estimation, and some testing, of the model are described, and directions for future work are suggested.
