Effect of reinforcement layout on interference effect of square footings on reinforced crusher dust
The present investigation discusses the role of reinforcement layouts on bearing capacity and settlement behaviour of foundation due to interference of closely spaced square footings at loose (relative density 29%) and medium dense state (relative density 64%) of industrial waste, crusher dust. The geogrids are placed in multilayers with continuous and discontinuous patterns in different layers to study their effects on the interference of footings. The model footings are placed with a spacing of 2.0 and 2.5 times the width of the footing. The increase in bearing capacity value depends upon the compaction state of the crusher dust, continuous and discontinuous arrangement of layers of reinforcement. Higher bearing capacity values are obtained for the footings placed at 2B spacing in comparison to 2.5B spacing. The interference effects of footings are also presented in terms of bearing capacity ratio, interference factor and settlement ratio along with their variations with spacing and number of reinforcement layers. Based on the present laboratory investigation, it was observed that the layout of the reinforcement in layers plays an important role in reinforced soil.
