Satellite remote sensing offers an opportunity to collect information on the changing nature of cities in the Arab world.
After an exploration of the reflectance characteristics of urban surfaces in the Middle East, the paper explores the role of Landsat and Shuttle Imaging Radar data for mapping Arab cities. Examples are drawn primarily from Kuwait and Tunisia.
