Expo 2025 Women’s Pavilion in Collaboration with Cartier – A Showcase of Circular Economy
The project is a pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka that aims to promote equality through various exhibits. Given the temporary nature, the design team which also worked on the Japan Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai prioritised the circular economy concept, and decided to reuse the space frame steel and membrane materials from the Japan Pavilion’s feature facade. All façade components were disassembled and shipped by sea from Dubai to Osaka. The new façade structure was reconfigured in shape to suit the new site in Osaka, adopting computational design approaches. Other measures were taken to enhance the circularity, such as reusable materials and low-carbon materials. This report presents the design approach to implementing the circular principles in the Women’s Pavilion, and assesses the expected impact on the embodied carbon emissions of the building structure.
