Prédiction de la résistance d'éléments de structures bois renforcés localement par des matériaux composites
Local reinforcement of timber structure components by using composite materials seems to be an efficient solution to increase the strength perpendicular to the grain: this increase can reach 200%. This study deals with experiments on end-notched beams reinforced with pultruded glass fibre (PGF). It tries to describe the failure mechanism of reinforced elements in order to elaborate a simple design rule: it demonstrates that the strength of reinforced elements can be estimated as the combination of the strength of unreinforced beam and an additive strength due to the reinforcement gluing. Numerical analyses reveal that reinforcements act as crack-stopper. The additive strength is determined from the shear capacity of the glue-line by evaluating the force required to close the potential crack in timber behind the corner of the notch. The comparison between the experimental data and the predictions shows the good agreement of this approach.
