Developing countries essentially need lowtechnology methods which can be applied to materials that are easily available. Here the author reports the results of co-operation between the UK and Ghana which has shown how tropical lateritic soils can be stabilised with lime to produce building blocks well-suited to local needs, especially in wet tropical regions.
