Mechanical characterization of flax textile reinforced cement matrix: effect of matrix parameters and reinforcement amount
The interest in natural fiber as reinforcement in cement composites has grown in recent decades, owing to their environmental benefits and good mechanical properties. However, the mechanical behavior of these eco-composites needs to be further investigated in order to make their use possible for repairing and strengthening existing masonry or concrete structures. In this context, this paper investigates the mechanical behavior of a Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) system produced with flax textile embedded within a Prompt Natural Cement (PNC). A parametric study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the textile reinforcement ratio, the curing time and the water/cement ratio of matrix on the tensile behavior of flax composites. The analysis of the results presented herein allowed to understand the behavior of this type of composites and identify the parameters affecting their mechanical performance.
