Determination of Energy Losses in Lighting in Terms of Good Vision Efficiency
Energy waste in lighting occurs in three main phases. These are the useless consumption of electrical energy, light and lighting. The ratio of good vision conditions ensured in a room to the consumed energy has been called “good vision efficiency”. Good vision efficiency depends on the obtained light ratio in light production, the ratio of light that has been sent onto the reference surface, and the ratio of lighting that ensures the required lighting quality, and will be established by multiplication of these ratios. In this paper, a new approach for the assessment of the energy losses in lighting is developed where the losses in electrical energy, light and lighting are considered of equal importance. These losses are determined in terms of good vision efficiency and the lighting installations in some experimental rooms are evaluated regarding good vision efficiency.
