Cumulative absolute velocity (CAV) seismic hazard assessment for Taiwan
Cumulative absolute velocity (CAV) is a ground motion intensity measure that is considered more indicative of structure damage than other intensity measures (e.g., PGA). Nevertheless, most seismic hazard assessments are PGA-based rather than CAV-based. In this paper, the first CAV seismic hazard assessment for Taiwan was presented. According to this CAV seismic hazard assessment, central-western and central-eastern Taiwan is of higher CAV seismic hazards than other areas. At the 475-year return period, the CAV of exceedance in those high seismic hazard areas is around 0.6–0.7 g-sec.
