Timber structures are often vitally dependent on their joints, especially where they are subject to concentrated forces. A new and simple type of connection for use with glulam (glued laminated timber) has been developed in Denmark; it consists of glueing threaded bolts or rods into the timber, producing joints of high aesthetic quality and offering greater design freedom. The technical factors involved are discussed here by a lecturer in timber engineering at the Technical University of Denmark.
