A fully disaggregate mode‐choice model for business intercity travel
A mode‐choice specification for intercity business travel is developed based on a multinomial logit structure. Unlike most earlier models, the new model is derived from a fully disaggregate data base and takes into account the buying power of the individual traveler and the trip length. Preliminary tests indicate that the proposed model performs up to 66 percent better than the best of the existing. Policy analysis suggests that bus companies could expect a 58 percent increase in business‐trip fare revenue by moderately reducing travel time and fare. No substantial impact on air revenue is expected from implementing similar policies in air travel.
