Counter-Fashion as Critical Practice
The Rational Dress Society (RDS), an experimental design collective, traces the history of fashion and counter-fashion, defined as the practice of dressing to express shared political beliefs. The current fashion system, dominated by fast fashion corporations, is inseparable from environmental devastation and labor abuses. A return to counter-fashion might serve as a corrective to the contemporary garment industry. The RDS introduces their counter-fashion garment, JUMPSUIT, as an example of the ways that counter-fashion can help us reimagine our relationship to dress.
