Environmental evaluation for water resources in Thailand
An attempt to develop an environmental evaluation system (EES) for environmental impacts of water resources projects in Thailand is presented. Altogether, 50 environmental parameters were identified as being associated with environmental impacts of water resources projects, and these were organized under 9 components which were further grouped under 3 categories. An opinion survey was carried out to determine the relative importance of the various parameters, components and categories. Value function graphs for the parameters were also established, using the results of the opinion survey. The methodology thus developed was then applied to a major water resources project in Thailand. Problem areas in the case study were identified by assigning flags. The study shows that the EES can be a useful quantitative impact assessment methodology for use in Thailand.
