The admixture of silica fume reveals an increase in the compressive strength compared with a reference concrete during the first month. However the improvement of the compressive strength tends to disappear in the long run. Silica fume plays a positive part up to around 20% content and has the most important effect when reaching 10 to 15% content, regardless of the water-cementitious materials ratio (cement and silica fume).
The paper presents a prediction model of the compressive strength for silica fume concretes with or without air-entraining agents. That model is validated with a precision less than 5% thanks to 282 experimental data based on the authors 'experiments and other investigations.
