Introducing a feature on the activities so far of a very young CIB working commission, the founding co-ordinator of W86 explains why there was quite a long gestation period before the commission could decide its priorities from the many options available, and why it is in fact now concentrating on strategic research. The objective is to help professionals diagnose the causes of building failures and to suggest ways to avoid similar failures in future.
