Hysteretic Behavior of Dual-Self-Centering Variable Friction Damper Braces with Low Pretensioned Force
To satisfy the resilient requirements, a novel dual-self-centering variable friction damper (DSC-VFD) brace with self-centering variable friction damper systems and basalt fiber-reinforced polymer tendons, is proposed. The working mechanism of the DSC-VFD brace was first investigated. Then, four DSC-VFD and SC-VFD braces with different groove angles were designed, and quasi-static experiments were conducted. Finally, finite element models of the DSC-VFD braced frame were created and the seismic responses of the frames were analyzed. The results show that the DSC-VFD brace presents a novel flag shape with large post-yield stiffness and enhanced energy dissipation which can effectively control the structural responses.
