The noise from construction and demolition sites is discussed. Starting with a definition of acoustic terminology, simple theory is outlined together with the simplifying assumptions usually made. Measures used to predict hearing damage and annoyance are indicated. Finally, the main sources of construction site noise are identified, control measures, discussed and the cost effectiveness of the controls assessed.
