An experimental and numerical investigation of reinforced slope using geotextile encased stone column
Soil slopes stabilization is one of the important issues in geotechnical engineering. In this paper a series of Lab model tests has been carried out to investigate behavior of geotextile encased stone columns(GESCs) in stabilizing of sandy slopes using small-scale experimental (SSE) and 3D finite difference method(3DFDM). Taking into account the GESCs in sandy slope as reinforcement is a new topic, which has been addressed in this paper. Experimental models performed by constructing sandy embankment. Results have shown that using GESCs in the middle of sandy slope increases the factor of safety up to 37%. GESC increases the bearing capacity of slope about 1.66 times of reinforced slope using ordinary stone column(OSC). The findings strongly suggest the use of GESCs for stabilizing of slope as an efficient way to increase the bearing capacity and factor of safety. The numerical study shows consistent results with those from the experimental observation.
