The rapid building development of Iraq has highlighted the need to evolve new materials and methods. In this article the director of the Iraqi National Construction Laboratories Centre describes research into the use of sulphur, both as a binder and a cement substitute, into no fines concrete in order to obviate the use of local high sulphate sands, and into the use of local crushed limestone aggregates.
