Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
To state the obvious, Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867) was both an inspired artist and a perceptive critic. His poetry and observations of nineteenthcentury contemporary art helped formulate the basis of a new French aesthetic; an aesthetic based on the celebution of the commonplace. It was Baudelaire who drew attention to the reflected light from the water in the gutters of the streets of Paris, and in so doing, opened our eyes to the latent beauty of everyday, mundane surroundings. It was he who drew attention to the societies of the cabaret as much as those of the literary and artistic salon. His insights into art, society and landscape, sufficiently distant from current trends, provide an interesting platform from which to observe and comment on contemporary landscape theory and practice in France.
