Swedish Homes in an English Climate
A simplified low-cost study has yielded much useful information on the long-term performance of 67 imported Swedish houses erected at Gateshead in the north-east of England. General user satisfaction with these all-electric houses is reported, but the study revealed that the problem remains to provide domestic hot water economically, although space-heating produced low energy consumption figures based on meter readings. There were also some difficulties with heat distribution and condensation. Dr Wiltshire and Professor Hardy are with the School of Architecture's Building Science Section at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
