Dynamic Characteristics and Target Displacement of Damaged and Retrofitted Residential Buildings Using Ambient Vibration Tests Following Sarpol-e Zahab (Iran) Earthquake (MW 7.3)
In this research, dynamic characteristics of 46 damaged or retrofitted buildings (22 RC and 24 steel buildings) induced by Sarpol-e Zahab earthquake are determined by ambient vibration tests. The obtained results are compared with the results of proposed empirical relations between codes and literature. Furthermore, empirical relations are proposed for calculation of fundamental periods of different types of buildings. In addition, damping ratios and mode shapes of buildings are obtained and presented. In the last section, target displacements of buildings are calculated using the experimental, analytical, and empirical periods and a thorough comparison is made between them.
