Erosion Control On Surface Mined Watersheds: A Modeling Approach
A simulation model developed to predict distribution of erosion and deposition on stripmined areas is used to illustrate the effectiveness of different conservation options in controlling erosion and runoff from a mined and reclaimed site. The model shows how much the diversions reduce offsite sediment yield and predicts optimal size and locations of a sediment pond to satisfy requirements of effluentstandards. Model predictions appear to be supported by the experimental data.
