Early Discharge of Low-Birth weight Babies
An infant's true capacity to survive, not an arbitrary weight, should be the criterion for discharge. In the belief that the home is the best setting for low-birthweight babies, such infants were discharged without regard to weight provided other criteria were met, and were found three months later to be doing as well as others for whom hospitalization was prolonged until a conventional minimum weight was achieved.
