The UIA Beijing Charter
The following papers were presented to the Twentieth Congress of the UIA in Beijing, June 1999. The summary Beijing Charter is followed by the full text drafted by Wu Liangyong. Professor Wu's Architecture in the New Millennium and Kenneth Frampton's Seven Points for the Millennium: An Untimely Manifesto as keynote papers set the theme for the conference attended by educationists and architects from around the world. The Journal of Architecture is grateful to Wu Liangyong and Kenneth Frampton for making their papers available in order to present them as related texts which review the twentieth century and anticipate the twenty first, thereby providing an apt prologue for this first issue in AD 2000.
