Early thermal stresses in massive rc structures
The heat of hydration produced within large structural sections can result in very large thermal movements and thermal gradients, which should be controlled if excessively wide cracks are to be avoided. The author, who is Professor in Civil Engineering at Birmingham University in the UK, here considers the design of large reinforced concrete sections for early thermal movements and gives data from some recent examples of massive reinforced concrete construction.
