The Space Between Tall Residential Buildings and the Efficient Use of Land
Many large cities suffering from over-population have too many people living in low-rise houses at an excessive density. Vacant land is usually not easy to procure in a densely developed city. This paper discusses the design of tower blocks with open spaces between them. A formula is developed for the distance required between blocks to ensure solar access, considered essential for thermal comfort in winter, when there is no heating.
