Housing and Aged Care Policies in Australia
When most people think of housing for elderly people, they envisage specific forms of accommodation: nursing homes, hostels and the retirement villages which are increasingly prevalent features of the Australian urban structure. This reflects a pervasive view of elderly people as a special group, who need support or supervision, and who are somehow apart from the mainstream of our society. In fact, the great majority live in the community in housing indistinguishable from any other.
