The Ottawa River basin, which straddles the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, is jointly managed under the terms of a federal-provincial agreement. The main goal of the administrative structure is integrated management of the principal reservoirs in the basin in order to provide flood protection while maintaining other interests.
This paper gives a brief description of the basin, the water uses, the hydraulic system and the flood problem. Possible solutions to the problem are discussed and the administrative and technical procedures implemented are briefly described.
