Footpath management in the national parks
The erosion of popular footpaths by walkers has been widely documented. It is important to note that the remedial management of recreationally‐induced damage may have landscape impacts. A survey of National Park Authorities in England and Wales has revealed a variety of approaches and attitudes towards upland footpath management. Various areas for potential improvement are suggested, including a more strategic view, additional resources, and wider sharing of knowledge.
