Study of the high iron concentrations in cement clinker by Moessbauer spectroscopy
A further aim of the present work is to investigate the willingness of the lattices of the four main phases - all together in clinker - to accept the iron ions inside the clinker as a whole. Seven mixtures from clinker raw materials (which were taken from National Cement Company, Tabbin, Helwan, Egypt) were prepared according to the formula: 12 wt % clay +(88-x) wt % limestone + x wt% pyrite ash, with x = 2, 4, 6 to 14. Each mixture was fired up to 1550 Cel in platinum crucibles, and then quenched in air to room temperature. Each mixture then became a clinker sample differing from the other mixtures in the iron content. Each sample was studied using Moessbauer and IR spectrometry and an X-ray diffractometer at room temperature.
