The scope of this paper is the electrical wiring system penetration f fire rated barriers in public buildings and buildings within an industrial plant, using systems and devices that are designed and installed so as to resist the spread of fire. Many ingredients are required for a public building or a building within the plant to meet life safety code requirements. There are various detection and alarm devices, fire suppression methods, and many other types of life safety systems. The types of cable and conduit sealing systems for penetrating fire rated barriers common in the industry, various code requirements, and product testing and certification are discussed. This paper does not discuss the adequacy of available fire and life safety equipment or their applicable codes.
