The effect of resilient fillings on direct and flanking sound transmission with cavity masonry walls
It is shown theoretically that resilient fillings can increase direct and flanking sound transmission with cavity masonry walls. Field measurements in dwellings before and after the external cavity walls had been filled with foam confirm the theoretical predictions. These measurements show average reductions in sound insulation of 6-7 dB and considerably larger reductions in some frequency bands compared with the values before filling.
