Outlines the principles of the following types of sprinkler systems: wet installation which is charged with water throughout the year; an alternate installation used to protect buildings in which sub-zero temperatures are likely during the winter months, when the water is drained from the installation and replaced with compressed air; the dry system using the compressed air throughout the year; and tail end or subsidiary systems which are used as extensions to the previous systems. Discusses the use of an accelerator and the function of false alarms and alarm tests and outlines suitable water supplies for the sprinkler installations.
