Yet another application for the ubiquitous strain gage has been found, this time in the sensing of liquid levels, particularly in far underground regions or similarly inaccessible water tables. The concept of sensing level by monitoring water pressure on a diaphragm or similar element is not entirely new. But recent technological advances, coupled with some ingenuity in packaging has resulted in a strain-gage-based level sensing system that promises to solve level gaging problems in many areas.
