Norwegian practice in instrumenting dams
The Norwegian Code of Practice for Dams requires that provisions be made for monitoring the performance of dams but, except for measurements of seepage and deformation, the Code does not specify what is to be monitored or for how long. The detailed design of the instrumentation programme is left to the designer but his proposals are subject to the approval of the regulating authorities. This article summarizes Norwegian practice and philosophy in this field in the light of these present requirements and past experience.
