Measuring steel-in-concrete corrosion with an electrical resistance probe
An electrical resistance probe is a valuable device designed to give data relating to the actual corrosion rate of steel in concrete, whether cathodically protected or not. Installed in the same environment as the steel, this non-destructive tool accumulates the corrosion history and allows for non-technical personnel to very simply calculate the metal loss in mils per year. Since the metal loss data is expressed as a rate, it allows problems to be foreseen before they become dangerous and costly.
