Temperature gradients in a cylindrical concrete reservoir
This paper describes a site experiment to measure the temperature gradients through a 178 mm thick wall of a 39.6 m internal diameter prestressed concrete water reservoir constructed above ground. The measured temperatures are compared with values computed by a finite difference transient heat flow analysis, which uses recorded solar radiation, air temperature, water temperature and wind speed as input parameters. Forced and natural convection at the boundaries was accounted for in the analytical study by incorporating the appropirate heat loss laws in the finite difference scheme.
