Corrosion monitoring in desalination plants through an improved polarisation resistance method
Through a modification of the polarizing mode the linear polarization resistance method has been adapted to measure low and very low corrosion rates also on oxide covered electrodes. The application of corrosion monitoring to desalination plants gives the possibility not only to follow variations of single parameters but also a full picture of physico-chemical conditions of the recirculating brine. Comparison of corrosion rate measurement and analytical data (pH, oxygen concentration, ion concentrations) evidences the higher sensitivity and reliability of the former method in following the desalination process parameters.
