Research results of converter slag mixture as road base materials, from laboratory experiment to road construction test, are presented in this paper. Materials properties of converter slag mixture and their utilisation performance in road construction have been tested, and essential data are obtained. Some utilisation examples in road construction are introduced. 2500 m2 of lime-flyash-slag mixture base course were paved for the test road of Shougang Pre-Fabricated-Element Plant and 1130-ton mixture was consumed. As a consequence, 10000 tons of the mixture were consumed for Dujiakan Toll Station of Beijing-Shijiazhuang expressway expanded in 1997; 12000 tons were used for the expansion of Babaoshan Road South in 1997; the auxiliary road base course of Baiyilu Road consumed 15000 tons of the mixture in 1997 and 11450 tons of the lime-flyash-slag mixture were paved in 1998 for the base course of Ping'an Street. The water content of the lime-flyash-slag mixture for Ping'an Street was 10.7 % and the lime content was 5.3 %, R14 = 0.91 MPa, R28 =1.37 MPa, R90 = 3.52 MPa, the typical value of the rebound modulus in the age of 3 month E = 1353 MPa. The departments involved in the construction gave a good reflection upon the lime-flyash-slag mixture. The measured results show, after Shougang's slag has been processed by the above mentioned processing procedures, that the stable indexes such as the upper fluctuation limit of measuring value of the pulverising rate and the content of the free calcium oxide are respectively lower (5 % and 3 %) than those of requested in the standards issued by the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and the Ministry of Construction of China. Therefore Shougang's slag can be used for the slag mixture.
