Geosynthetics a tool to control erosion of soil
The widely adopted geosynthetic erosion control for channels are fabric formed concrete revetment system. Fabric formed concrete revetment are made by pumping structural grout into fabric forms to form individual rectangular blocks within a network of fabric cells. The conventional method of erosion control over sloping ground by bales of straw, hay etc. are found to be temporary. This has been replaced by the geosynthetic erosion control system called silt fences consist of fabric placed vertically on posts to prevent sediment carrying sheet runoff from entering into downstream creeks or sewer systems. The bottom of silt fence is generally embedded in an anchoring trench. The spacing between the post over which the fabric is attached is kept usually at 1.5 to 3.0 m spacings. Some times a wire geogrid fencing is provided to fabric for additional support. The geosynthetic application provides simplicity and flexibility to design erosion control system. The design chart can be used for the design of geosynthetic erosion control system. The computer program can be used for different combination of input data to get the required result.
